Clarifying Misconceptions About the Affordable Care Act with Explainer Videos that “Break it Down, and Break it Down Again”

We designed, directed and animated a three-minute OLV and four 15-second social media cutdowns as part of a new national campaign for HealthCare.gov. The campaign promotes the special ACA enrollment period created by the Biden Administration.

Mode Project was chosen as a full creative and collaborative partner by agency Weber Shandwick, working with The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.) We streamlined the project, successfully delivering under a tight deadline, by leveraging our full-service approach to production, with production, design, editorial and animation all under one roof.

We met the goal of clarifying to the general public the sign-up process on the HealthCare.gov website by designing a dynamic, animated visual system made up of illustrated icons which are paired with the relatable on-camera spokesperson. The combination of graphics alongside an approachable human who takes the time to ‘break it down to just the facts’ results in clear videos capable of making something super complex seem simple.

Director Brooks Ruyle guided the talent, produced on a stage in Chicago, while collaborating with the Washington, D.C. based agency attending remotely.
